Where Is the Annabelle Doll Now? Has Annabelle Escaped?
Worried over the whereabouts of the allegedly possessed Annabelle doll? You're not alone. Google searches about whether the Annabelle doll is missing, or where Annabelle is, have surged in the past few years, partially due to Tony Spera and NESPR.
The short answer: no, the real Annabelle doll is not missing.
The long answer: absolutely not, the real Annabelle doll is not missing. The doll is safe in the possession of her handlers, either in the Warren's Occult Museum in Connecticut, or out on a tour earning money.
Annabelle isn't some terrifying marionette/ventriloquist dummy situation, she's just a vintage Raggedy Ann doll. Ed and Lorraine Warren, infamous paranormal investigators made up of a self-proclaimed demonologist and a self-proclaimed light trance medium, claimed to have investigated the case of a possessed Raggedy Ann doll in their very first published book, the 1980 book The Demonologist, written by Gerald Brittle.
But that’s only part of the story.
Is Annabelle Real?
That depends on what you mean. The physical Raggedy Ann doll definitely exists and is moved around the country on "tours" by her handlers.
What’s documented is that the Warrens treated the case seriously enough to isolate the doll in a strange little protective church-shaped case. Unfortunately, that documentation has no supporting evidence and the people involved in the original alleged case file have never spoken up or come forward.
Did They Lose the Annabelle Doll?
Rumors occasionally spread that Annabelle has gone missing, presumably running amok and setting fires, such as to plantations. However, there’s no verified evidence supporting those claims. Some suggest that Annabelle's handlers and NESPR start these rumors as a form of viral PR.
According to The Connecticut Insider, in 2025, the Warrens' estate promoted online reports that the doll had "disappeared" as part of a viral marketing campaign for a tour called 'Devils on the Run,' showcasing items from the Warrens Occult Museum. "The doll was never missing," said Tony Spera the Director of New England Society for Psychic Research. "We had taken the doll on a brief tour to several locations, so paranormal enthusiasts could witness the real Annabelle."
In August 2025, comedian Matt Rife purchased the Warrens' home and Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, which also made him the legal guardian of the museum collection, including Annabelle, until at least 2030.
